The Informed Voter

The Informed Voter

It is commonly believed that decisions in America are made by a majority of the people. This is not so.

  • Decisions are made by a majority of those who vote.
    • As few as 16 percent of all eligible voters in a district can elect a member of Congress.
    • Even presidents have been elected by an average of one-half the votes per precinct nationwide.
  • The U.S. House of Representatives elected Thomas Jefferson as President. Your one vote does make a difference!
  • The Presidential race between Al Gore and GW Bush was decided by less than 400 votes from the state of Florida in 1980.

The links below will take you to some interesting information about the 8 original founding fathers of America who were dedicated to a form of government that would not be allowed to be taken control of by one political party.

  • They feared the tyranny that could come from a pure democracy would become a socialist government controlled by the few rich who would in turn rule the populous.
  • If one looks at history this is the evolution of governments. That is why they decided on a constitutional republic where we the people had the right to self-governance. In Federalist # 1 Hamilton explains that power hungry people begin by appealing to the desires and prejudices of the people before taking their rights.

The founding fathers decided on a constitutional republic where there would be three centers of power:

  1. Judicial (supreme court)
  2. Legislative (House and Senate) and finally
  3. Executive (Office of the President), in other words, no one supreme being.

For nearly two hundred fifty years, the US Armed Forces have had the duty to preserve that union, and they still do.

  • Now we the people must ensure it is preserved by focusing that elected Representatives who support and defend that constitution.
    • Not with just word salads but by adhering to the rule of law.
    • We must rid ourselves of the socialist who roam the halls of congress and various agencies before it is to late.
